Here we are going to explain what punishable offence in this section is and how much has imprisonment under section 510.
The section states that Whoever, in a state of intoxication, appears in any public place, or in any place which it is a trespass in him to enter, and there conducts himself in such a manner as to cause annoyance to any person, shall be punished with simple imprisonment for a term which may extend to twenty-four hours, or with fine which may extend to ten rupees, or with both.
The section contemplates that the offender must be in a state of intoxication. In such a state he must appear either in a public place or in a place where his presence would amount to trespass. There he must conduct himself in such a manner as to cause annoyance to any person. The offence under this section is a very simple one punishable with simple imprisonment only and that too for a maximum period of twenty-four hours only.
